“THE WAY” – CAMINO DE SANTIAGO
The Central Portuguese Way is the Jacobean path that connects Lisbon with Santiago de Compostela. Since the Middle Ages, it has always been one of the most important paths to Santiago, and today it is the second path in number of pilgrims, only surpassed by the French Way. The total distance of the Portuguese Way between Lisbon and Santiago is 613 km; from Porto it would be 240 km that you can easily walk in 10 days, while the Gallego section (the last 115 km from Tui to Santiago) is usually done in just five days. The temperate climate of these regions allows it to be a suitable path for all seasons of the year. One of the main attractions of the Portuguese Way is its gastronomy, and a particularity of this route, as a result of the demographic density of the areas that it crosses, are the numerous services (bars, restaurants, grocery stores …) that are at the edge of the road or a few meters from it.
